Sun rising over Yellowstone Lake
Still very misty
Morning mist hovers over small islands in Yellowstone Lake
Yellowstone Lake, superwide perspective
Driving east on East Entrance Road
Cliffs too steep for much vegetation to grow on
Looking to the west on East Entrance road, in the direction of Yellowstone Lake
A little creek just outside the east border of the park. Moose spotted here moments before I arrived
No moose, but brilliant summer morning light on grasses.
Back in the park, a bison and his wingman move along the road.
Mud Volcano, a short drive north of Yellowstone Lake
Bubbling gases and brilliant green grass.
Beautiful grasses growing in the mud and shallow pools
Grasses growing and dying at the same time.
Life and plants adapting to the different chenistries of the pools
On the walkway towards Dragon Mouth Spring, steaming in the distance.
Gasses bubbling up in front of the grasses
A Killdeer stretching its wings
The standard American Crow picking small worms out of the pools
American Crow posing in front a bubbling spring
American crow posing in front of steam vent.
American Crow glaring at me next to a spring
American crow with its shadow and reflection, picking out a worm from the pool
Another worm or larva being eaten by an American Crow
American crow gets another worm! Good hunting here.
American crow checks to make sure I am not a threat
American crow picking worms off of the log.
I see the worm!
Bright grasses surrounding different springs
It took me a while to make the short walk to Dragon Mouth Spring, distracted by the birds!
Sure does look like a Dragon's mouth!
Some bubbling action today, not so much splashing
Steam rising over the hill from Dragon Mouth Spring
Brilliant grasses of late summer
Fallen trees in the golden light of the afternoon
The pond next to Black Dragon Cauldron
The trees grown, then the waters shift, and the trees die.
Looking over Black Dragon Cauldron
Another look at Black Dragon Cauldron
Churning Cauldron, a fairly standard photo, even with the superwide
Churning Cauldron, much more dramatic from this angle
