Arriving at the Strahov Monastery to view the library.
Services were being held in the chapel ahead.
Heading over to the library entrance.
Inside we get a view of the tour groups arriving.
Two main rooms, here is the paneled room.
Quite a nice collection of books!
I am particularly impressed by the urns on the railing.
Maybe the urns were for candles, before the advent of 220 volts?
Pretty impressive ceiling art, must have been restored.
A mobile lectern.
A formal library is incomplete without a few busts.
Out in the hallway, cabinets of curiosities.
A library of physical specimens.
A library of money.
This is the second room, more geography involved.
A great place to sit and read!
Forgot to return the library books?
A bit more ornamentation than the bookcases we get from IKEA.
Sun comes out from behind the clouds every so often, lighting the room differently moment to moment.
Classics! Not many books out in circulation.
This is one heck of a reading desk!
Well lit by sun coming out for a moment.
Dropping down to show the ceiling frescoes.
Lined up globes.
I wonder what's in the locked section?
Stairway to higher volumes.
Classics sorted by height.
There is probably a story to this fresco.
Every library has it's odds and ends.
Ornate chess set. Where is the black castle?
Bedazzled book.
Illustrated manuscripts!
Aquatic curiosities.
Naval artifacts.
Moths galore.
It's quiet for a moment at the paneled room, I go back to take more photos of urns.
Plenty of urns on this side as well.
That's a lot of carving!
Getting a good shot!
