Starting back at the visitor's center, on Utah Route 24
The bluff overlooking the visitor's center, where I aim to be in a few hours.
These might be Hymenopappas filifolius blooms.
The view west down Utah 24.
Back at the start of the Hickman Bridge trail, which leads to the Rim Overlook trail.
Decision point, up to the Overlook!
A bit of climb up the valley.
Getting a nice view of Pectols Pyramid
Cruising a flat part of the trail, keeping pace with a young family out with their infant.
A view of the easy part of the trail.
Easy going on the flat part of the trail.
A great day for a hike!
Boulders eroded by the wind along the trail.
Another view of Pectols Pyramid.
Common globemallow (Sphaeralcea coccinea)
Reaching the point overlooking Hickman Bridge.
Taking a breather.
Peering down at the other hikers below Hickman Bridge.
Pectols Pyramid across the valley.
Resuming the hike up towards the rim.
One of the bluffs to the south across the valley and west of Pectols Pyramid.
Dead tree reclining in the sun.
Details of the dead tree trunk.
Didn't have my macro lenses with me on this trip. Had to make do with the 18-300mm Nikkor, which did a pretty nice job.
Busy ladybug.
Ladybug in hiding.
Pretty Claretcup (Echinocereus triglochidiatus) blossoms.
Claretcup (Echinocereus triglochidiatus)
Now at the Rim Overlook! It was a hard slog with the 300mm f/2.8 tele and monopod on my back.

View of the Capitol Reef Visitor Center from the Rim Overlook.
Here is the campground. Rather nice with the trees, a luxury in the Southwest.
Utah 24 heading east.
Two reservoirs located above the Capitol Reef Visitor Center towards the west.
Two reservoirs located above the Capitol Reef Visitor Center towards the west.
Switchback ridge heading south across the valley.
Base of the cliffs towards the east, along the north side of the valley.
Smaller knob to the west of Pectols Pyramid across the valley to the south.
A view of Sulfur Creek as it enters the valley from the west, I think.
Ridges along the south side of Utah 24.
Switchbacks on the road to the west of the Nature Center
Another of the swtichbacks.
Change in color of the ridge to the south of Utah 24.
I have some curious visitors, now that I have stayed in place for a few minutes. A Cliff Chipmunk.
A cliff chipmunk (Neotamias dorsalis) showing me his or her "good side"
The trail leading up the ridge along the south side of Utah 24, above the Visitor's Center.
A bit higher up on the trail.
Midway up, at the fault line.
Greener ridges to the east of the Visitor's Center.
Superwide view from the Rim Overlook, looking south across the valley.
Distant ridges. Looks like snow, but probably isn't.
