Random bit of northern Iceland coast, on Route 85 about 2km north of Húsavík
Starting a hike of Ásbyrgi Canyon. We were literally the only ones there!
Steep cliffs more than 100m high. The river has moved to the east, leaving this valley.
Birch and willow trees, a nice treat in Iceland.
Appreciating the quiet and the trees!
I am asked to take some photos!
Getting towards the south end of the valley
Soft trail underfoot
Going down the slope to the lake.
Which is still nicely frozen at the end of April. No waterfall at this time.
The snow is still up the the top of the fence rail.
What a lovely place!
Walking up and to the west wall next
Up for a little bit!
Taking advantage of the sun peeking over the top of the cliff for a sunburst
Taking a short hike up to the base of the western cliff.
There is a bit of a waterfall, it seems!
The barest hint of what will come later in the year.
Photo of a photo of the steps up to the west wall.
Amazingly large blocks of stone, almost look like they were dropped from the air.
Ásbyrgi Canyon, superwide, up on the west wall
If I look up with the superwide, this is what I see!
Taking a different route back to the car. Upper trail along west wall was closed.
Pretty meadow surrounded by trees and huge black cliffs!
