Looking out from our private cottage at Guesthouse Steinsstadir
A little wrap-around porch
A quiet little cottage about 1/2 km south of the main guesthouse.
This is the quiet public pool right next door!
Sun starting to break through the morning clouds
Dramatic pools of light crossing the farms
The horses were pretty perky, trotting about.
Relatively big farmhouse, but bigger mountains!
A large greenhouse, which we didn't explore, since we spent our time in the pool.
Squash? Pumpkins?
The main room, with cozy dining table and well equipped kitchen.
Another view of the main room
Packed up! Ready to go!
Nice views of the valley in the rooms
Nicely made up, soft beds
Narrow, but functional bathroom.
A view of the pool the main room. All to ourselves in late April!
Water is nice and warm, 38 C. Wonderful swimming under the stars at night
A view of the terribly long walk from the pool to the cottage!
Horses making their own breakfast
Glaumbær church, all closed this early in the season
Large turf houses, with rather nice windows and amazing interiors. Surprisingly nice and bright!
Quite clever layout, doors and windows facing south to bring in the light and warmth
North facing walls are quite solid
The blacksmith's forge, so the interior is unfinished.
We go on to the next turf house
and peek inside.
A bit of a disappointment that things are still closed during late April.
Locked!
The little tea house, highly recommended, is closed as well. Alas!
Taking another look inside...
Quite beautiful and comfortable looking!
Graveyard with views of the valley
Views of the power lines as well.
Quite peaceful. Would have been nice to have a cup of tea here!
Spring means noisy birds, looking for mates
The gravesites will get neatened up once summer really begins.
Small bird figurines grace many headstones
Somewhere along Route 76, northern central coastal Iceland
I bet these trees are lovely around the house when they have leaves. All the same height...
Along Route 76, looking out over Miklavatn, north central coastal Iceland
Houses that look like they are huddling together to get out of the wind
Quiet, icy water
Here is the barrier ridge separating the sea from the lake
In Siglufjörður, at the Herring Era Museum. April is not mentioned on the sign.
One of these things is not like the other...
There is a clearly a pigeon fancier at work here!
Did a bird break the glass?
Tour boats are quiet this time of year
One of the buildings of the Herring Era Museum
