Morning sun on the fjord reflected onto guesthouse patio windows
Our trusty Kia Sorrento AWD, a great little car!
Lighthouse on Grimsey island in the morning
Gulls very busy, getting breakfast
Coming in for a landing...
Touchdown!
Gathering around kelp beds near the shore
They would rather steal kelp from other gulls than pull it up on their own
Taking off to gulp down kelp in safety...
Often near collisions between gulls landing to feed
Running takeoffs
Another near miss
Peggy posing in with Grimsey Island in the distance
Our comfy living room at the Malahorn Guesthouse
Fully equipped kitchen made it easy to make dinner and breakfast
Our bedroom reset to the original layout
In lovely little Homavik we visited the Museum of Sorcery and Witchcraft, found by accident!
The possession of staves such as these was punishable by death
Yet many people seem to have had them secretly
A well laid out museum that taught us a lot about early Icelandic life. Pretty harsh...
We ate lunch at the restaurant at the museum.
Nice drinks selection, but we were driving, so just admired
The museum guide cooked us this delicious cod stew. Really tasty!
He showed us where they grow some of the vegetables and herbs for the restaurant.
The big sky as we stepped outside after lunch
Not unusual to find boats parked everywhere when driving around the coast.
Beautiful little settlements along the coast of the southern eastern edge of WestFjords, route 68
A last look across the fjord to Grimsey Island and its light
Church and cemetery along Route 68, east of Holmavik, 65.609715, -21.400765
One contributor on Google Earth labeled this church as Kollarjardarnes.
Climbing up away from the coast to cross the tip of a peninsula between fjords.
Nice view of the settlement. Modern building is the Broddanes HI Hostel, well reviewed.
Sheep farm with view of northern central Iceland
Abandoned or not? Hard to say.
In Hvammstangi, we spotted this baby excavator with daddy right behind.
Small harbour area at Hvammstangi, but the town is rather large and is very well maintained
Lighthouse north of Hvammstangi along Route 711 with a view of the WestFjords
Friendly Icelandic horses watched us as we walked up to them
These two must have known we had sugar cubes for them.
Very calm and friendly horses.
This guy or gal was the friendliest, and got the most sugar cubes from me.
These horses watched us from a little distance
Hey, butt out! I was here first!
Everyone became interested once they knew treats were involved!
Driving on to Hvitserkur, a rock formation on the coast, off Route 711
Gulls resting on the warm black sand of Osar Beach
We took the path to the south down to Osar Beach, where you can walk north to Hvitserkur.
Hvitserkur from above, doesn't look like much yet...
Across from Osar Beach are seals sunning on the black sand
They keep an eye out for any predators.
