A spring storm moved in overnight, and this is what our drive to Ísafjörður looked like
Lots of blowing snow. Thank goodness for the yellow plastic road markers!
Bíldudalur Airport! Amazing to find a little airport right by the road
Bíldudalur Airport terminal building. Not many flights operating today with the snow.
Drove by this lovely waterfall right next to the road south of Bíldudalur.
Roads not too bad here on the coast, worse as we climb across the hills
Harsh conditions...
We came upon these swans swimming quietly
Peggy took this shot!
Higher up in the hills, more snow and blowing snow
Going the right way, whew!
Snow drifts are pretty high here!
Peggy getting back in after looking at the snow drift
We passed the turn off to Dynjandi, and this is what the view was going back
Dynjandi turnoff
Dynjandi was pretty frozen up at the top. We didn't do the walk to the top.
Other people who had breakfasted at the FossHotel with us, had hiked the trail
We contented ourselves with looking at the falls at the bottom
Still snowing pretty heavily, and we had a quite a way to go to Ísafjörður
Back on the road along the coast again
Across the road from the Mjólkárvirkjun hydropower plant Icelandic horses were grazing
They need daily appointments with hairdressers!
We stopped here just long enough to eat some sandwiches and read the sign.
Climbing north from Hrafnseyri on Rt 60, there is much more snow
We cross the peninsula to reach the town of Þingeyri, population 260. Good to be out of the snow!
I now know that this sign indicates a crossroad with priority to the right.
I think we will go to the right...
Finally, in the harbor area at Ísafjörður, more than two hours later than we expected.
