Fishing boat getting ready to set off. We will see it again later. Still snowing...
Quite a few good sized fishing boats
Best meal of our 2 week trip at Husid in Ísafjörður. Only got this photo by accident!
Quite a few cats out and about in the snow. Hardy Icelandic cats!
Still cloudy and gloomy, looking out across the fjord
On a walking tour with Helga Hausner, who shows us photos of the old town.
Rather attractive use of corrugated metal. Everything wooden and metal has to be imported.
Decorative moldings and corrugated metal. The Metal is just so much more durable.
The yellow is rather refreshing. I like it!
Older windows. This house has been here a long time, with one of the few trees around.
They know how to grow real icicles here!
We don't get icicles as good as these at home!
Hoping for summer to arrive! Tomorrow is the first day of summer... (Taken in Ísafjörður, WestFjords, Iceland on one of the last days of spring. A late spring storm had come through with some snow the three days before and again that morning.)
This looks very much like a smiling face to me. Very cheerful!
Ísafjörður's fire department, definitely not from the 1800s.
Looking out across Ísafjarðardjúp to the really deserted parts of WestFjords
The extreme northern end of the WestFjords is hard or impossible to get to by road
We drove the road on the left towards the north for a little bit. Many fish drying sheds.
Here's the fishing boat headed out to Ísafjarðardjúp
Hard to figure out where the snow ends and the clouds begin (Fishing boat setting out from Ísafjörður, WestFjords, Iceland. Seems like a lonely job in a lonely http://)
Sun coming out a bit. That is Route 61 which we will drive tomorrow.
Climbing onto the landslide protection berm along the west side of town
We get a look at some of the colors used for houses. Nice!
The wind has died down, and the lagoon is very quiet. On the left is the big N1 gas station.
Now looking to the east, towards Ísafjarðardjúp
This doesn't look like good rock for climbing. Lots of falling rock
Views of the harbor area are good from up here
The works of man feel tiny in comparison the those of nature
That's the airport across the fjord. The runway parallels the coast and the road
Rather a neat little town. Population about 2600 (2008 data)
Looking out to the west, along Route 61, across the milky sea
Then the sun peeks through a hole in the clouds
Plenty of atmosphere still at the top of the ridge to the east of town
Rockfalls in the mist
Quiet house with attached garage? At the extreme edge of town
Ísafjarðarkirkja, the modern church
Another look at the smaller fishing vessels
Nearly a full moon over Ísafjörður! Taken from the backyard at the apartment at Túngata 20
The clouds are coming and going as the day's storm passes
The camera is still set to Colorado time, so it is 10:15PM. This is after processing in Lightroom
The original image looked like this. Amazing shadow detail in the D800e
