There are seals in the lagoon! Warming up in the glacial melt. (Pretty heavily cropped, even at 500mm (300mm f/2.8 VR + TC17II. D800e has plenty of pixels to allow for cropping, and the lens/teleconverter combo has enough image quality to allow this.)
Resting seal, floating ice
That's a content seal face!
A rather steady progression of seals in and out of the lagoon
They were curious about the tourists and often came relatively close to take a look at us.
Once in a while I could get a glimpse of a seal's back.
Heading out to sea past the mounds of ice stuck along the shore.
They must consider this water warm, or maybe they find it a safe place to relax. No killer whales.
An iceland gull (Larus glaucoides) coming in for a landing.
Harlequin Ducks (Histronicus histronicus). I just love that latin name!
Harlequin ducks taking off.
Female Harlequin duck in flight
Seal whiskers
Asleep at the wheel. They must find the lagoon pretty safe.
What are you looking at?
A sunning seal's smile.
Two seals...
Three seals...
Three sleepy seals
Is it safe for a nap?
Ahhhh...
Better check around.
Still ok, time to relax.
Rolled on to his (or her) back
Big yawn.
Elder ducks arriving
Eider male has breeding plumage, with the pink tint to the breast feathers.
Face left!
Seal whiskers and smile
A group of eider ducks, with a second male approaching the couple...
He is told to get away.
Eider duck male puffing up!
Eider male making its call. A "wooo wooooo wooo" sound.
Proud male eider duck.
Seal swimming quickly past.
More eider ducks coming in for a skipping landing
Switching to a braking action next
Waterskiing to a landing. Strangely elegant.
Six seals in a group now!

Maybe a couple?
Big seal smile!
This pair stayed pretty close together.
Male eider duck making some noise.
Another male eider duck displaying.
Very noisy ducks this time of the year.
I think that is a no.
Stealth duck attack.
More hooting and waving of wings.
This is a yes.
Seals heading out to sea under the Ring Road bridge.
This is apparently what I look like when I'm photographing seals and ducks.
