Driving to Jökulsárlón, we see this excellent example of mural artistry
Some rather good artists at work!
Sólheimasandur east of Höfn. Miles and miles of rubble from volcanic eruption causing glacial melt
Getting closer to Jökulsárlón, looks like a storm coming in.
On the bridge over the river connecting Jökulsárlón to the sea
Excited hikers skirting the ice-filled lagoon
Quite a bit of ice, late April
Bringing some ice to the photographer...
Great trophy shot
Lots of happy photographers
Two students from France taking a few photos with Lego and glacial ice
That's a great combination I wouldn't have thought of: Lego and ice!
Getting the cast of characters assembled, literally.
Posing them in Lego-like positions...
Getting ready for the next scene
Where should this piece go?
More ice! More rocks!
Ice, camera, Lego action!
Work it, baby, work it!
Plenty of ice and rocks to work with!
Different types of ice. I wonder how many words for ice there are in Icelandic...
Using the 28-300 Nikkor Swiss Army lens. Pretty good sharpness at f/11
Great shapes, like sailing ships
Jökulsárlón with the superwide. Water, rocks, and ice. Pretty elemental.
Better! Bringing more foreground elements in to exploit the superwide's field of view.
Going low, to try to bring little chunks of ice into frame. Need to be closer to the water, I think
The river's flow sweeps the little bits into the channel
Male eider duck, rear view
Same duck, front view.
Now we get the eider duck profile, to complete the mug shot series
Ice on the river bank. Sort of looks like a bird's head, shaped by wind and water.
More different textures of ice. Using the 300 f/2.8 VR + TC-17II = 500mm
I love the swirls in this very clear piece of ice
This could be great hood ornament for a car
The continent of Asia?
India or Mexico? An elephant balancing on a stool?
Deformed rabbit?
Some sort of mystical animal, a griffin? A seal with a headdress?
Better juxtaposition of ice up close and the lagoon with the superwide.
Peggy getting a photosphere with her iPhone, while we stand among shiny bits of ice.
This is pretty good, with the water of the lagoon, chunks of ice near and far. storm coming in.
Hard to take an ugly photo of this!
Excited photographers!
Say, "ice cube!"
Many photos being taken. Maybe more than anywhere else in Iceland!
Almost looks like you could walk across to the other side.
Up on a ridge over the lagoon we get a more panoramic view. Peggy is taking another photosphere.
Great mountain backdrop to the north of the lagoon.
I wonder if skiing can still be done up there?
The blue color of the ice can be seen in the big blocks.
