Walking from shuttle bus stop to trailhead
We encountered some plump squirrels
Quite a fluffy tail you have
Do you have a peanut for me?
Very tame squirrels in Zion National Park (Walking from the shuttle bus stop to the start of the Narrows trail, this very calm (hungry) squirrel let me slowly put the camera within a foot of him. The camera selected the focus point correctly!)
More sentinels on the path: "What is your favorite color?"
Looks like a couple!
Looking back after making the first crossing
Setting off along the Virgin River
We spent as much time in the river as along side it.
Having sticks to keep our balance was very helpful.
Crossing from side to side to find the shallowest spots
Water passing along fault lines in the sandstone weeps into the river
Lots of vertical compositions coming up. Having a vertically oriented monitor is helpful...
Lots of post processing to bring highlight brightness down and shadows up. Almost HDR.
Coming around a hollowed out area carved by the river
Each bend in the river has interesting caves and overhangs.

Sun illuminating most of the rock wall ahead of us. (Zion National Park, the Narrows, about an hour hike upstream of Orderville Gulch.)

The canyon is very deep! (Zion National Park, the Narrows, about an hour north of Orderville Gulch.)

This is the furthest we got!
Wonderfully clear water with crisp fall light. (Most puddles away from the river were pretty scummy, so this must have been fed from a spring)
Coming around the bend going downstream, near the finish of our hike
Looking upstream at people just starting to hike
Heading back to the shuttle bus stop
People weren't the only ones crossing the stream
